A British Perspective on Kyrgyzstan’s Rugged Beauty and Nomadic Culture

Who is Ethan Hamilton?

Originally from the misty hills of the Peak District in England, I spent a decade navigating the corporate grind in London before realizing that my true office should be the open road. After five years of global travel across fifty countries, I landed in Bishkek—and honestly, I just never left. It’s been a wild ride.

What started as a three-week backpacking stint turned into a total obsession with the Tian Shan mountains, the messy complexity of nomadic history, and that legendary Kyrgyz hospitality. Today, I call Bishkek home. I live right at the doorstep of some of the most dramatic, bone-shakingly beautiful landscapes on Earth.

Why I Created This Site

When I first moved here, finding straightforward, honest info about logistics, costs, or actual trail conditions was a nightmare. Most sites were either dead blogs from 2012 or polished travel agencies trying to shove a pre-packaged bus tour down your throat. It was frustrating.

I realized there was a massive need for a dedicated, independent planning resource. A place where you could find out exactly what a 4×4 rental should cost in 2026, which yurt camps actually have heaters (essential, trust me), and how to dodge the tourist traps that are starting to pop up as the country gets “discovered.”

Important: We Are Not a Travel Agency

It is important for you to know: I do not sell tours. I am not a travel agent, and I don’t have a fleet of vans sitting in a garage somewhere. I’m just a guy with a laptop and a lot of mountain miles.

This website is an affiliate-supported resource. This means that while I might recommend specific gear, platforms like Viator, or car rental services I’ve personally vetted and trust, my primary goal is information. If you book through a link on this site, I might earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. It helps keep the site running and my mountain research ongoing. My loyalty is to the truth of the experience, not to a sales quota. I won’t lie to you about a trail just to make a buck.

My mission is simple: To help you plan the most authentic trip possible. Whether you are a solo trekker hunting for GPS coordinates of a remote pass or a family wanting to see the World Nomad Games without losing your mind, I’m here to share the “British-Bishkek” perspective. It’s messy, it’s real, and it’s up-to-date.

I spend my weekends scouting trails in Ala Archa, driving the dusty, potholed roads to Kel-Suu, and drinking far too much tea in local homestays. All of that just to bring you the most accurate advice available in English today.

See you in the mountains,
Ethan Hamilton
